1. Veggie Burgers
Just because they are veggie burgers, it doesn’t mean they’re healthy. You never want soy, wheat gluten, or canola oil to be an ingredient in your veggie burger. There are wonderful, healthy alternatives that are made from black beans, adzuki beans, quinoa, sunflower seeds, and mushrooms.
2. Bone Broth!
Hippocrates stated, “Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food.” Bone broth, as used throughout history, has been affectionately known as “Jewish penicillin.”
This is not the watery stuff you would usually find in cans and boxes at the grocery store. Healing bone broth is made from organic, raw chicken bones and cooked over a 24-hour period for maximum mineral extraction. This mineral-rich liquid is made by simmering the bones of free-range chicken with traditional vegetables, herbs, and a small amount of raw apple cider vinegar. All of this is done in artesian well water to produce a delicious elixir.
I love using this product in our gut repair protocols and to strengthen immunity.
Want to make it yourself? Here’s our favorite recipe!
3. Grass-Fed Beef Liver
Dr. Weston A. Price was a Cleveland dentist who changed the face of nutrition. Dr. Price has been called the “Isaac Newton of Nutrition.” He traveled all over the world studying the dietary practices of healthy people from traditional cultures. His work has dramatically influenced my own.
Dr. Price found out that nearly every culture placed a high value on consuming animals in their entirety, especially the organs.
Modern science now confirms the theory that eating the healthy liver of another animal supports the natural functioning of your own liver.
Is your energy low? Are you constantly tired? Do you have trouble detoxifying or recovering from illness?
Liver from pasture-raised animals is a nutritional powerhouse, loaded with vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other compounds vital to your health. If you’ve ever been on safari or watch Animal Planet when they are in the African plains, you’ll notice that predatory animals eat the liver first because it is the single most nutrient dense part of the animal.

4. Wild Smoked Salmon
Wild salmon is packed with protein and useable omega-3 fatty acids, making it one of nature’s most supportive foods.
5. Beef Bones
Use beef bones to make your own bone broth (instead of chicken)
They have all of the same benefits from chicken bones plus added lymphatic and kidney benefits!
6. Bison
It's exciting that bison is gaining more popularity! Bison tastes great, is lower in calories than chicken and fish, and is high in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids as well as Vitamin E, which supports the nervous system. Bison is not part of the horrible conventional system of CAFO’s (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) – where the animals are not only treated poorly, they are constantly consuming antibiotics in their feed and being treated with growth hormones. Bison is wild and clean, and free of these things, which means it's 100% grass fed!
Protein, Made Easy
If you live in an area where these foods are hard to find, the good news is you can order them online! We love US Wellness Meats for top-quality, affordable grass fed meat products and bones delivered right to your door and then there’s Lance the Flavor Chef who ships his bone broth far and wide as well as our friends over at Pete’s Paleo who do the same. Gotta love how small the world gets when the Internet is involved.
Cheers to eating traditional foods and using them as our medicine, just as nature intended.
